Biography

Etienne Anker is a Swiss tenor from Les Diablerets. He graduated from the Haute École de Musique de Genève-Neuchâtel in 2024 with a Bachelor’s degree and two Master’s degrees (opera singing and singing pedagogy) in Stuart Patterson’s class. He is currently honing his skills as an opera singer with Professor Graeme Danby.

He works regularly with various conductors in French-speaking Switzerland, including Facundo Agudin, Jérôme Kuhn and Pascal Mayer.

In sacred music, Etienne is regularly engaged as soloist for cantatas and the Magnificat by J.S. Bach. He has also played the Evangelist in the St John’s and St Matthew’s Passions on several occasions.

As for opera, he made his debut during the 24-25 season in the roles of Bastien (Bastien et Bastienne, Mozart) with the Opéra de Chambre de Genève, then Ernesto (excerpts from Don Pasquale, Donizetti) in Neuchâtel, and Gastone (La Traviata, Verdi) at the Nouvel Opéra de Fribourg. He continues the current season with the role of Malcolm (Macbeth, Verdi) at the Théâtre Orchestre de Bienne-Soleure, followed by parts as tenor soloist in King Arthur (Purcell) in Neuchâtel, before concluding the season as Alceste (Erismena, Cavalli) in Geneva.

Etienne won third place in the Gianni Bergamo Music Award competition (2023). During his studies, he received awards from the following foundations: Yvonne Sigg (2024), Janine-Françoise Muller-Dumas (2022), Baccarini (2017), Emile, Irène and Gabrielle Rossier (2015 and 2016).
